Context:
IOM’s Department Media and Communications Unit (DMC) is comprised of experienced
communications professionals based in Geneva and Manila.
The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM
Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for direct media relations with
UN-accredited Geneva press corps and others, administers IOM’s global social media accounts
and website and manages content submitted from around the world to be published on those
global platforms, oversees institutional branding and initiates and manages global information
campaigns. DMC produces a wide range of print and audio-visual materials for a variety of
audiences to enhance understanding about IOM’s work and its position as the leading UN
agency in the field of migration, and to advocate on behalf of the rights of migrants worldwide.
of Creativity Unit (Branding and Audiovisual) will be responsible and accountable for the
formulation, management and implementation of creative communication strategies to promote
IOM and raise awareness of migration in the media and among the general public.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Manage, provide advice and expertise, and supervise the graphic design and branding, the
multimedia teams, and project managers in the strategic development of messaging and
content.
2. Oversee and approve suitable graphic design (social media card, infographics etc) and AV
products designed and produced to support the institutional visibility and media engagement
efforts of the newsroom.
3. Review, edit, revise and approve content developed by the creative teams, ensuring that
deliverables address marketing goals and challenges effectively.
3. Plan, lead and oversee the production of fresh, innovative work that translates complex ideas
into compelling graphic and digital experiences for a variety of audiences.
4. Commission, script, produce and direct video clips of the Senior Management Team for
broadcast at IOM and other events worldwide and web posting.
5. Coordinate creative content development output with headquarters (HQs) departments,
including the development of promotional materials.
6. Provide expert technical advice and assistance to field missions in the development of
graphic and audio-visual materials.
8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media Communications or Public Information or a related
experience; or,
- University degree in the above fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in corporate brand management and graphic design elements.
- Fluency in video, photography and graphic design software, such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe
- Excellent oral and visual communication skills, with an ability to explain complex matters in an
- Good understanding of communication campaigns and tools, including engaging audiences via
- Ability to transmit information and guidance to team members in a clear and strategic manner;
- Work strategically to reach the Unit’s goals and improve its outputs quality and reach; and,

- Interfaces across units and departments within IOM to extract relevant information;
- Interfaces successfully with the media to maintain and enhance the image of IOM;
- Communicates clearly and consistently the determined media message even in the face of
- Displays availability outside of regular hours to respond to challenges.
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be
fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another
official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
