Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Newsroom in the Department of Media and
Communications (DMC) and in technical coordination with various thematic divisions, the
Communications Officer (Thematic) will support IOM’s efforts to enhance engagement and
visibility across thematic areas, including partnerships with member states, global stakeholders,
and special supporters such as Goodwill Ambassadors. The Communications Officer will
collaborate with these divisions to develop high-quality, creative communication materials that
align with IOM’s strategic objectives, supporting engagement, advocacy, and fundraising
activities.
Thematic Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
- Contribute to the development and execute communications strategies targeting key
partners, to support IOM’s strategic engagement, advocacy, and fundraising goals.
- Lead the creation of tailored communication materials to support thematic engagement,
highlight IOM’s impact and encourage partner support.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for thematic divisions, building trusted relationships and
- Collaborate with thematic divisions to support and lead communication campaigns that

- Produce high-quality content, including press releases, articles, social media posts, and other
partners and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement content strategies to boost engagement with target audiences through

- Support the development of long-term media and communications strategies to engage

- Master's degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, International Relations, or a
experience; or,
- University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.
- Proven experience in private sector engagement, corporate communications, or donor
- Experience in content creation, including writing and editing for digital media, website content,
- Experience in strategic communications and donor engagement strategies; and,
- Experience working with private sector stakeholders, businesses, or philanthropies in
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse
- Knowledge of private sector engagement strategies and fundraising communications;
- Proficiency in digital media and content management tools, including social media platforms
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be
fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another
official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment,
accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and background verification and security
clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be
required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the
medical clearance process.
