The Rheumatology Department at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) are seeking permanent part-time and full-time Staff Specialists (Up to Permanent 1.2 FTE available) to join their team. The position will be based across SCHN with a requirement to attend at both Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
What you'll be doing
The Rheumatology Department is a network service that cares for patients & their families at both the Sydney Children’s Hospital & The Children’s Hospital at Westmead as well as provides outreach clinics to metropolitan and regional NSW. Staff within the service work across the two sites for clinics and on-call coverage. Staff also provide regional outreach within NSW and the ACT.
The role of the Staff Specialist is to provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of the paediatric rheumatology multi-disciplinary team. The scope of the service will involve inpatient and outpatient management of acute and chronic rheumatic disease including - but not confined to - inflammatory arthritis, autoimmune disease, vasculitis, uveitis and non inflammatory musculoskeletal disease.
The Staff Specialist role will require attendance to both physical sites of the SCHN and also outreach sites along with on-call as required by the department
Participate in review and improvement activities, advocacy, as well as training and education of staff. There will be an expectation that the role will be actively engaged in research.
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
This position is permanent and may be full-time or part-time.
As this is a “Category A” position, please refer to the NSW Policy Directive PD2024_015 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination for vaccination requirements.
All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatric Rheumatologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways in Paediatric Rheumatology
- Demonstrated recent and ongoing clinical experience in tertiary paediatric rheumatology services including both inpatient and outpatient care
- Demonstrated recent experience in the performance of intra-articular aspiration and injection in children
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
- Willingness and ability to participate in regular outreach clinic provision both in the Sydney Metropolitan area and regionally in line with the expectation made of other senior medical staff
- Willingness and availability to participate in an on-call roster covering both physical sites of the SCHN (Randwick and Westmead) and to respond on site within a reasonable time
