We now have opportunities available for casual staff to work on the museum’s summer holiday programs between 19 December 2024 – 2 February 2025, for families with children aged from 0-14 years. Further opportunities may exist for work on Mondays, Tuesdays or weekends during term time and other school holidays during 2025 subject to staffing needs.
The museum prides itself on providing quality, innovative programs for families with children aged 0-14 yrs. Reporting to the Programs and Site Activations Coordinator, you will be responsible for engaging children and families in public programs activity areas including Kids on Deck or Mini Mariners programs, and in facilitating interactive family experiences such as our summer performances of Superluminal by Patch Theatre.
Your main responsibilities will include, but be not limited to:
- Work on summer school holiday programs, with some opportunities to work on term time programs subject to staffing needs.
- Facilitating interactive exhibitions and family programs including art making, experiments, play activities, performances, and opportunities to lead costumed tours, parties, and creative workshops.
- Facilitating outdoor activations such as ocean science tours and underwater drone workshops.
- Working as part of a team with other casual family programs staff.
- Demonstrated experienced in working with children OR studies in Early Childhood or Primary School education.
- Flexible schedule and the ability to commit to working during the Summer school 19 December 2024 – 2 February 2025. Availability during school term including Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays or Sundays will also be favourable for any ongoing work opportunities.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Experience in working as part of a team.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to use creative arts or performing arts to enhance the learning experience of program participants.
- Keen interest in/ study background in the arts, ocean sciences or education.
- Must be physically fit as job involves set up and pack up of equipment for programs. Some lifting required.
- Senior first aid qualifications (desirable but not essential).
- Must be flexible and innovative in your approach to program delivery, prepared to respond and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Casual work.
- Minimum 4 hour call out between 8.30am – 6.00pm.
- Pay rate $33.59 per hour.
- Penalty rates apply for Sundays and Public Holidays.
Successful candidates will be required to attend training on Tuesday 17 December from 3.30pm -7.30pm
