We are seeking a highly motivated Health Manager to work with the dynamic Clinical Governance Unit team for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) at The Children's Hospital at Westmead as the Patient Friend. The role is to commence in mid-January, 2025.
The role will manage various forms of consumer feedback - complaints, compliments, suggestions and observations. The role requires good attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills, as the role works with staff to investigate the issues and concerns and prepares written responses on behalf of SCHN.
The position requires highly developed communication, leadership and negotiation skills, and an ability to work with a high degree of autonomy reflecting the level of experience and expertise required.
What you'll be doing
The Patient Friend supports, facilitates, and provides consumer feedback and complaints management education programs. The Patient Friend works with staff all across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network to identify quality improvements and implement programs. This includes:
- Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick
- The Children’s Hospital at Westmead
- Bear Cottage
- Kids Research
- NETS (Newborn and paediatric Emergency Transport Service)
- Children’s Court Clinic
The Patient Friend is a senior position within the Clinical Governance Directorate and requires highly developed analytical, leadership and project management skills, and an ability to work with a high degree of autonomy reflecting the level of experience and expertise required.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or high level extensive experience in the management of complex health related complaints and issues at Ministerial, NSW Ministry and SHN/LHD Executive level.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including proven ability to communicate, negotiate, resolve conflict and liaise effectively with consumers and health professionals at all levels and across disciplines.
- Able to demonstrate qualities such as integrity, warmth, empathy, friendliness and enthusiasm.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports, briefs, responses and other documents relevant to consumer feedback and complaints.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse data for inclusion in reports and presentations and to inform improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement, discretion and initiative and to set priorities to meet competing deadlines in a high volume, complex work environment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a busy workload with competing and rapidly changing priorities.
