Context And Mission
The objective of this position is to speed up AI computations via developing hardware solutions in autonomous driving systems, in particular for Level 4 autonomous driving. Autonomous vehicles require high performance for sophisticated decision-making and planning operations, which are based on AI. The candidate will work on the research, design and implementation of advanced hardware AI solutions targeting the automotive domain, within a RISC-V FPGA platform. This includes AI acceleration support using short vector processing, multicore, GPU and AI accelerators.

Part of the work will also include interfacing with widely used AI software infrastructure, such as Tensor Flow and Pytorch. The candidate will also devise solutions that combine AI performance acceleration with the specific safety requirements found in automotive systems

The funding for these actions/fellowships and contracts comes from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility - Next Generation, within the framework of the General Invitation by the public business entity Red.es to participate in the talent attraction and retention programs within Investment 4 of Component 19 of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

Key Duties
  • Investigate hardware AI acceleration methods for autonomous driving within the RISC-V ecosystem
  • Design and implement hardware solutions in an FPGA prototype
  • Evaluate the implementations with automotive use cases
Requirements
  • Education
    • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
    • Demonstrated experience with RISC-V through a university subject
    • Hands-on experience with hardware design through a university subject
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • at least one hardware description language (Verilog, VHDL, System Verilog etc)
    • La Te X
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience with safety critical systems
    • Experience with FPGAs
    • Experience with AI-related hardware design will be appreciated
  • Competences
    • Problem-solving, proactive, collaborative, and result-oriented work attitude
    • Good communication skills including proficiency in English (both written and spoken)
    • Ability to perform work both individually as well as in a team
Conditions
  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance
  • Duration: 4 years
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: 30.000,00€
  • Additional Expenses Grant: Each fellowship will be associated with a grant for additional expenses, such as IT equipment, travel, training, stays, etc.
  • Starting date: asap - the incorporation for this vacancy must be before the 16th of December 2024
