Background on Save the Children
Save the Children International has been working in Nigeria since 2001 in several states: Borno, Cross River, Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Oyo, Adamawa, Yobe, Lagos, Ondo, Jigawa, Zamfara states and - focusing on nutrition, child survival, education and protecting children. Since the outbreak of the conflict in North-Eastern Nigeria, we have been working to counteract the impact of the conflict on the lives of children through our humanitarian interventions.
In the past, the Southern-Western states in Nigeria have been determined as relatively calm, between 2021 and 2022, the overall security situation were considered volatile in parts of the North-Eastern and some South-Eastern parts of Nigeria especially in Borno, Yobe and Cross River states where SCI had large scale humanitarian operations.
The nature of economic, infrastructural and internal security challenges confronting South-East and South-South geopolitical zones impacted negatively or otherwise on socio-economic development of the region leading to the location being a difficult area to work.
Context
