Sessional Instructor - Mechanics II

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Sessional Instructor to co-teach BMEN 383 - Mechanics II in the Winter 2025 term. The course is scheduled to be delivered in-person.
Course Description:
Elements of Solid Mechanics: review of axial-force, shear-force, bending moment and torque diagrams, equations of equivalence in the de Saint Venant beam, solution of axial force, torsion, bending, shear force, yield criteria, beam deflection and statically indeterminate structures, Euler buckling. Elements of Fluid Mechanics: static forces on surfaces, buoyancy, stability, dimensional analysis and physical similarity, Bernoulli's equation, introduction to external flows and flow through pipes.
This course is split into two sections: solid mechanics and fluid mechanics, this co-instructor position would primarily be associated with the fluid mechanics content of the course.
Course Schedule (Jan 13 - Apr 11, 2025):
Lecture: Tuesday/Thursday 8:00am-9:15am
Lab B01: Wednesday 2:00pm-4:45pm (alt weeks)
Lab B02: Wednesday 2:00pm-4:45pm (alt weeks)
Lab B03: n/a
Lab B04: Friday 2:00pm-4:45pm (alt weeks)
Tutorial: Thursday 9:30am-10:45am
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of an MSc in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related discipline with a Ph D preferred. They also require evidence of teaching effectiveness and previous teaching experience, preferably in a closely related course or courses.
