What the role entails
The Public Services Department encompasses a range of divisions, including Public Works, Community Services, & Emergency and Fire Services, in a dynamic and growing municipality in both size and sophistication. Working as part of a group of dedicated, collaborative, and supportive people, this is your time to join this expanding team and use your drive and initiative to do meaningful work.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Programs; Fitness and Recreation, it is the role of a Fitness Instructor is to conduct a variety of fitness classes at a variety of locations in the
Municipality and ensure the health and safety of all participants. This includes preventing accidents, responding to emergency situations, and demonstrating strong public relation skills.
Responsibilities
The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to:
- Conduct a variety of fitness classes at a variety of locations in the Municipality.
- Monitoring and reporting class attendance and participation.
- Ensure the health and safety of all participants, including preventing accidents and responding to emergency situations, including administering first aid when required.
- Follow all Municipal policies and procedures.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Current Fitness Leadership Training (OFC, Can Fit Pro, YMCA, SFIC or equivalent). Fitness instructors are required to maintain appropriate certifications.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
- Strong public relations, customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Legally able to work in Canada.
- Rate of Pay: 36.85 per hour (2024 rate)
- Hours of work: up to a maximum of 24 hours per week including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Pre-employment testing for this position may include an oral, written and/or practical assessment, to assist in determining the successful applicant. A passing score will be considered to be 70% on each test with the highest score considered in the award.
Prior to starting the position, the successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, the following:
- A current (with the last 180 days) satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening, directly from a Canadian Police Information Centre. Criminal Records Checks from third party agencies are not acceptable. Applicants who have been employed with the Municipality within the last year and have provided a criminal reference check within the last 365 days are exempt from providing another criminal reference check.
