About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Child and Youth Psychiatrist to work in our Dunedin based Youth Specialty Service. Our Youth Speciality Service is the specialist mental health service for 14-18 year old. Our teams are made up of health professionals who provide a range of specialist mental health services and contributing to care for children and adolescents as well as sub-specialty areas such as; maternal and infant mental health, early psychosis service and addictions. Your responsibilities will include assessment and treatment while working collaboratively with the primary health sector, education and NGO sectors. The role may include supporting our rural based clinics by providing Telehealth appointments and clinical support.
About you
As a Consultant Psychiatrist with either Child and Youth Care setting, you will have a personal commitment to maintaining high standards of practice and an unequivocal dedication to working as part of a team. Your ability to provide clinical leadership and reliable medical input to the multi-disciplinary team is pivotal to the position.
You will have a strong commitment to service user and family/whanau inclusion in service delivery and a focus on recovery. You will also have a sound understanding and commitment to biculturalism. Working at tertiary hospital means that you are contributing to the supervision and training of registrars.
You will be required to participate on an on-call roster providing after hours coverage for the Southern region. Fellowship with the RANZCP or equivalent is essential, and you must be eligible for registration with the NZ Medical Council. A full driver's licence is essential for this role.
You will also need the following:
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro-rata)
