The role
Accounts Assistant
(1.0WTE Full time, Specified Purpose)
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services is seeking an Accounts Assistant to provide support in the Finance team for a specified period.
The Accounts Assistant will report to the Financial Controller.

The role will mainly be working remotely however the post holder will work on site as operationally required; St Patrick’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St Patricks Hospital Lucan and all SPMHS Dean Clinics.
Responsibilities
- Support the monthly reconciliation of work in progress and capital accounting:
- Review of expenditure in AX – capital invoices.
- Review purchase orders to ensure accruals are correct.
- Reconcile the balance sheet account for building projects / WIP.
- Ensure invoices coded to the correct project and within the budget limit.
- Ensure invoicing is correct for vat.
- Manage the monthly reporting, forecasting and capital spending on projects.
- Work as part of the Finance team on the monthly management accounts.
- Monthly analysis:
- Prepare a final analysis of general ledger accounts for inclusion in reports.
- Support the Finance team in the preparation of analysis as required.
- Cash Office/ accounts payable:
- Provide support as required.
- Other:
- Provide detailed analysis against donations for capital expenditure as required.
- Assist in annual reports and review as required.
- Any other duties as required.

Person specification
Qualifications and/or experience
Candidates must:
- Relevant third level qualification or higher.
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in Finance
- Have experience working in a hospital
- Have experience and appreciation of working within a quality assurance environment
- Have strong accounts preparation experience and experience working to tight deadlines
Professional knowledge, competencies, and skills
- Possess excellent communication/interpersonal skills
- Be self-motivated with initiative
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Have a high-level organisational skill
- Have a very high-level IT & administration skills
- Be accurate & methodical in completion of duties
- Have the ability to prioritise own workload
Terms and Conditions
Tenure: Specified Purpose, Full time contract.
Working Week: The standard hours applying to this position are currently 35 hours per week worked Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm. The role will mainly be working remotely however post holder will work on site as operationally required.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the Grade V 2024 pay scale (€49,431 - €59,724) and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position 25 days.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme after successful completion of probation. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder’s performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
