Introduction
We are seeking a Head of Safety to join Metso! In this global role, you will be responsible for Metso’s health and safety performance with the target towards Zero Harm and strong Safety culture. Your role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety of all our employees, partners, customers, contractors and other stakeholders. In this position, you will report to the Chief Growth Officer.
This position is mainly located in Finland, but other locations can be considered for the right candidate. Please note that some international travel is required in this position.

You will join a team of dedicated professionals at Metso, where safety performance and a commitment to zero harm are at the forefront of everything we do. As part of our team, you will contribute significantly to reaching our ambition level towards zero harm by working closely with various stakeholders and cross-functional teams, including R&D, HR, Operations, and Supply Chain. Together, we integrate safety considerations into business planning, project management, and decision-making processes. You will also coordinate with other counterparts within the organization to successfully implement Metso’s safety compliance processes and strategy. Our team culture emphasizes collaboration and getting things done together, with members located all around the globe.
What you’ll do
Develop and drive the organization’s long-term safety strategy, establishing functional collaboration and ensuring consistency with Business Areas (BAs) and Market Areas (MAs)
Coordinate the implementation of global policies and programs, ensuring alignment with legal, corporate, and customer site requirements
Use global network of safety people to cooperate and develop best practices across organizational units.
Develop Metso's Global Safety Strategy, KPIs, and Reporting, while BAs and MAs handle execution and operations. Continuously follow, report, and correct processes during implementation
Establish governance frameworks and clarify roles and responsibilities in safety
Define, develop, and maintain safety guidelines, audit methodologies, and compliance standards globally
Oversee incident investigations and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to enhance safety performance.
Lead global improvement programs and initiatives for Metso, including operations and suppliers. Develop and deliver safety training programs, fostering a culture of safety across all organizational levels, and maintain state-of-the-art safety management tools and reports
Establish leading safety KPIs, monitor performance, and provide regular updates and strategic insights
Develop and implement 3rd party safety auditing and improvement programs for both Metso and its subcontractors
Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging safety technologies to continuously enhance organizational safety measures.
Who you are
Proven track record in developing and implementing long-term safety strategies across multiple market and business areas.
Experience in the development and maintenance of global safety policies, legal requirements, and customer site regulations.
Previous experience in defining, developing, and maintaining safety guidelines, audit methodologies, and compliance standards on a global scale.
Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Ability to work efficiently within a matrix organization, effectively collaborating across multiple departments and reporting lines to achieve strategic goals
