The Transition Accelerator is a charity dedicated to solving Canada’s business and social challenges while moving Canada down viable pathways to a competitive, net-zero emissions economy by 2050. Our mandate is to help make sure that Canada is on a pathway to an economically competitive future in a world that is trying to dramatically reduce its GHG emissions. The Accelerator is seeking a motivated individual who wants to help drive the advancement of the organization’s mandate within the new Building Electrification Alliance.

The Buildings Decarbonization Alliance (BDA) is a coalition of over 260 stakeholders from across Canada dedicated to promoting building electrification. It brings together key players from across the sector including building owners and managers, HVAC equipment manufacturers, distributors and installers, architects and engineers, the construction industry, utilities, start-ups, civil society, researchers, financial institutions, and government. At the Building Decarbonization Alliance, we believe that the most credible, capable, and compelling pathways to building decarbonization will consist of the wide-scale adoption of a full spectrum of electric technologies—especially heat pumps in all of their forms and applications. Our work aims to provide the tools, analysis, and connections needed to speed up the adoption of those technologies.

About the Role

The Transition Accelerator is seeking a full-time Sr, Analyst. Reporting to the Director of Policy, Building Decarbonization Alliance.


Key Duties & Responsibilities


  • Manage and undertake the execution of building electrification initiatives and projects, which may include coordinating research initiatives among BDA partners, defining and overseeing BDA original building decarbonization analysis, and working alongside governments and industry to further our common understanding of the building electrification pathway.
  • Support the development, populating and deployment of the open-source energy end-use model to advance building electrification research, including researching and developing technical input parameters techno-economic measure and system assumptions.
  • Engage experts in key sectors to develop research questions, research inputs and recommendations and indicators that will track the progress of electrification measure and policy adoption.
  • Undertake a review of building policies, programs and regulation through the lens of net zero implementation. Help identify policy and research gaps and develop research plans to overcome them.
  • Work internally with the Communication and Knowledge Mobilization teams to execute appropriate communications and stakeholder engagement activities maximize the impact of the building decarbonization analysis work.
  • Collaborate with Building Decarbonization Alliance staff and with teams across the Accelerator to bring a strategic focus on building sector measures and policies to other projects by highlighting techno-economic opportunities, and strategies to overcome net-zero implementation barriers.
  • Advocate for the Building Decarbonization Alliance and the Transition Accelerator to act as the independent intermediaries to deliver a comprehensive net-zero buildings policy and research for Canada.
  • Ensure the Transition Accelerator develops strategic relationships with, and solicits ongoing feedback from key stakeholders including government, industry, Indigenous groups, academia and civil society.
  • Undertake other responsibilities that may arise using the selected applicant’s expertise.


Experience

  • At least 8 years of proven experience in an analyst or consulting role in energy and environmental policy and/or energy/decarbonization research for the built environment.
  • Proven experience in project management for research/analysis assignments, and collaborative, stakeholder-facing roles.
  • Demonstrated capacity to synthesize and transform knowledge into compelling messages and materials to support collaborative work.
  • A university degree preferably in engineering, public policy, political science, climate science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in using the Microsoft Suite of applications, especially Excel, Word, Power Point.
  • Experience working with building decarbonizations measure analysis, technical resource manuals, building modeling, utility program techno-economic assessment are definite assets. Experience in the use of Power BI and code development in Python are also definite assets.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English, bilingualism is an asset.
  • An interest in advancing Canada’s transition to net zero.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with a diversity of stakeholders, including government, industry, academia, and Indigenous groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Out-of-the box thinker with strong empathy, professionalism, and a drive to make things happen.
  • Responsible, takes initiative, and likes to be held accountable for results.
  • Ability to work in a quickly changing, sometimes uncertain environment.
  • Experience and comfort in managing remote processes.


Location and Travel


This is a fully remote position & the work will be conducted in a virtual environment. The selected applicant must reside in Canada, be able to participate in some in-person meetings across Canada.


The successful candidate is expected to be available for work during normal business hours 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the time zone in which the candidate resides in.
