About the role:
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) are more than just part-time jobs - they’re a great way to set yourself up for the career you want whilst you are completing your HSC. Available to year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW undertaking the Higher School Certificate (HSC), this program allows students to complete a traineeship while at school.
A typical day with us would be spent dispensing medications to patients or organising supply of imprest medications to hospital wards. You will be involved in medication deliveries, stock management and providing customer service to staff and patients when we accept prescriptions for dispensing.
Where you'll be working:
- Our growing team of around 75 staff consists of pharmacists, assistants, technicians, stores and administrative personnel. We work as a team to ensure the safe, efficient and timely provision of medication services to both inpatients and outpatients of the John Hunter Hospital.
- Our team endeavours to achieve optimal medication outcomes following the Hunter New England principle of serving Every Patient, Every Time.
- John Hunter Hospital delivers a variety of inpatient and outpatient acute and sub-acute health care services to the Newcastle community and provides exposure to a variety of disciplines and specialties.

- You will complete a traineeship and gain a Nationally Recognised Qualification in Certificate III in Hospital or Health Services Pharmacy Support by the end of your HSC year. You will work part time with us in the pharmacy department at John Hunter Hospital, receive on the job and off the job training and remain at school on other days. Your minimum of 100 days of paid employment receives appropriate credit towards your HSC (usually 4 units).

Additional Information:
To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
