Position Duties
The Senior Grants Specialist assists with the daily financial accounting operations of the University, including: managing the grant accounting information and post-award processes (invoicing, grant set-up, reporting), preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations for monthly general ledger close, assisting in the year-end general ledger close process, preparing schedules for the annual financial audit, and assisting with tax filings and other reports.
- Manage grant accounting process including invoicing and grantor reports. Monitor grant activity, review actual to budget variances and communicate analysis to external stakeholders when necessary.
- Manage reconciliations of monthly general ledger and operating accounts.
- Prepare and analyze reports, schedules, worksheets, narratives, etc. for the annual financial audit, the single audit, form 990, and other internal and external reports.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required experience: Experience in public accounting, higher education/other not-for-profit organization and/or grant management and accounting. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and accounting skills.  General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  Excellent problem-solving skills.  Working knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger. Workday experience a plus.  Working knowledge of internal controls, general ledger, financial statements and reports.  Working knowledge with Microsoft Office including Excel (pivot tables, V-lookup), Word, Outlook and Power Point.  Possess strong human relations/customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.  Possess strong ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Commitment to support the University's mission and values and work collaboratively with all University constituents.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with varying degrees of difficulty.  Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.  Ability to effectively interpret University and departmental personnel and accounting policies, procedures and practices. Ability to support the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education, as well as University goals for institutional diversity
