In this position, you will be expected to serve as a structural engineering job manager and coordinate with other project team-members, stakeholders, consultants, and contractors. You will supervise and mentor a staff of subordinate engineers preparing the designs, drawings, and specifications for the construction and upkeep of a variety of large public civil-works projects including buildings, bridges, retaining walls, fish passage structures, and hydraulic structures related to water storage, water transportation, flood control, and recreation.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

The ideal candidate’s application and resume will clearly and concisely demonstrate as many of the following desirable qualifications as possible: knowledge and experience in the structural engineering field and especially in the duties mentioned above; technical proficiency in structural engineering; ability to direct the work of others—including coaching/mentoring/leading other engineers; can execute work assignments autonomously; can communicate and write well; can successfully work on multi-disciplinary teams; is detail and quality oriented; and can manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time
