Boulder
FULL TIME
December 3, 2024
Job Summary
The new Space Weather Prediction Testbed (SWPT) located at the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder will accelerate the development and evaluation of innovative forecasting capabilities from research to operations (R2O). As part of the team supporting the new SWPT, you will transform observational data and model output into functional, interactive software and dashboards that users, both internal and external, will leverage to enhance their decision-making capabilities. You will also work to establish design standards and guidelines for the SWPT. The Frontend Design Engineer will contribute to the design, improvement, and implementation of such services to be used at SWPC for the purpose of safeguarding society with actionable space weather information.
Who We Are
As part of NOAA’s National Weather Service, the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) operates 24/7 to provide real-time monitoring and forecasting of solar and geophysical events, which impact satellites, power grids, communications, navigation, and other technological systems. SWPC customers include the general public, industry, and government agencies.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Design the Future: Design, build, and innovate user interface solutions for applications that will be evaluated in the Space Weather Prediction Testbed (SWPT), and contribute to the continuous improvement of the SWPT’s Frontend design practices and usability testing. (50%)
- Design Fundamental Testbed Capabilities: Design and build user platforms that will form the basis for interactive Testbed exercises with researchers, forecasters, and end users, allowing participants to collaboratively explore space weather events. (30%)
- Collaborate and Innovate: Join a dynamic team where your expertise will contribute to modernizing the Space Weather Prediction Center’s user products and data visualization. Collaborate with researchers, developers, industry partners, as well as operational staff and space weather forecasters to bring the best version of products into operations at SWPC. (20%)
