Regional Angling Development Officer

You’ll report into our Angling Development Manager (North) and work closely with other Regional Angling Development Officers across England to support the planning and delivery of all our participation programmes that are funded by the Environment Agency and Sport England—your focus will be delivery in the East of England covering the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire.
You will be the principle contact in the region for a network of clubs, fisheries, coaches and others who deliver Get Fishing, Cast Award and other engagement programme to get more people fishing and to develop the fishing habit.
This is a fixed term, full-time role that suits an experienced development officer living in the region who would like to work alongside very passionate and supportive teams within a flexible and family-friendly organisation.
What you’ll be doing
- You will be supporting local clubs, fisheries, coaches and other organisations to deliver engaging, safe and well administered events aimed at new and existing anglers. This will include providing guidance and direction to event leads and assessing planned events to ensure they meet our minimum operating standards.
- Your work will promote the benefits of angling across the community, reaching those who may not have fished before, enticing lapsed anglers back into the sport and supporting those for whom angling is a solution to their well-being challenges.
- As a recognised local representative, you will have to field a range of enquires and either act as a local point of contact and/or signpost enquires to colleagues across the Angling Trust. Your work will at times see you liaising with colleagues in our Campaigns, Competitions, Fisheries, Mar Comms and central operations teams.
- Your work will include a combination of home-based and bankside work. There will be need for some weekend and evening working on occasion.
- Your work will directly contribute to maximising Environment Agency rod licence sales and to Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy.
- An interest in both freshwater and sea angling.
- Ideally you will have some knowledge of safeguarding those who attend community events.
- You will be a qualified angling coach and/or you will have experience of sports development processes and policy.
- Experience of capturing high quality images at events for promotional purposes.
- Experience managing resource budgets and evaluating performance against strategic objectives
- Salary of £29,500 per annum plus contributory pension
- Fixed term to 31 March 2026 (extension subject to performance and funding)
- Remote home-based role with regular travel across your region
- Flexible working across 37.5 hours per week (some evening or weekend work, as required)
- 25 days holiday (plus public holidays) later rising every year up to 28 days
- Laptop and telephone as well as any mileage, expenses, and TOIL
Contract length: 14 months
Pay: From £29,500.00 per year
