Job Title: Production Engineer
Location: G&H Ilminster
Salary: Competitive, DOE
At G&H Ilminster, we specialise in the research, development, and engineering of optical elements for aerospace and defence applications. We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a Production Engineer to join our dynamic team. Our Production Engineers are responsible for the support and improvement of current manufacturing processes including routing standards, documentation, tooling, equipment and procedures. Continuous improvement of the legacy-manufacturing environment. Working as a member of a multifunctional team within a dynamic production environment in support of the business goals, objectives and AS9100 accreditation
Role
Maintain and improve current products with regards to manufacturing process, tooling and equipment.
Run CI projects to improve the efficiency of our processes and reduce COPQ.
Review and develop the manufacturing process for NPI, either make to print orders or internal development in line with current processes and production requirements
Attendance of MRB, investigation and solving of current production process issues
Ensure production processes and SOP’s efficiently utilize materials, methods and personnel.
Support the testing and replacement of obsolescent consumables
Design and manage the introduction of new tooling related to current production processes
Lead PFMEA and capability/repeatability improvement activities
Maintaining of H&S risk assessments for current processes and support of new risk assessments where required.
Ideal candidates will have:
A Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent, or sufficient relevant experience
Willingness to pursue further education to meet role requirements
Over 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a similar production environment
Results-oriented with proven problem-solving skills
Flexible and able to meet project deadlines
Demonstrates a strong ability to learn and implement new skills and processes
Attention to detail and awareness of the broader business context
Capable of prioritizing tasks independently in a dynamic, agile NPI environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in process investigation and problem-solving
Experience in developing PFMEAs and control plans
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Experience using 3D drawing/design software
Awareness of glass machining, polishing, thin-film coating, metal machining, and modern manufacturing techniques (preferred but not essential)
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma (DMAIC)
