Job Summary
Grounds Cafés are now recruiting for a General Manager at their unique location in The Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds.
Unlike Grounds other cafes, the Abbey Gardens site does not have indoor seating, instead serving passing customers from the small, listed building located by the aviary.
Due to the site’s limitations, we require a manager who is adaptable, forward thinking, flexible in their approach and able to deal with the vastly changing requirements of the site.
Abbey Gardens requires only a small team to run smoothly but it is extremely busy at weekends, throughout the summer and during school holidays, which means your team must be well trained, well prepared and most of all well managed.
We are offering a starting salary of £28,000, with an additional £2,500 added once you have completed your probation period. There is also the opportunity to earn over £3,000 in bonuses each year.

This position is possibly suited to an experienced Supervisor who is looking for their first role as a Manager.
We are looking for a candidate who can work in this unique ‘Café’ environment and is able to grow sales, build and develop the team and also show the adaptability needed for the varying levels of business throughout the year.

Duties

• Supervise and manage café staff, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient operations.
• Oversee food production processes, ensuring quality and adherence to food safety regulations.
• Assist in the preparation of food items.
• Train new employees on Café procedures and customer service expectations.
• Manage ordering supplies to ensure smooth operations.
• Implement health and safety protocols to guarantee a safe working environment for all staff.
• Foster a positive team environment that encourages collaboration and personal development.
• Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally, ensuring satisfaction.

Experience

• Proven experience in team management within a Cafe or catering setting is essential.
• Strong knowledge of food safety practices and regulations..
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
