PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Group Finance Manager is a critical role within the central office that is mainly responsible for overseeing all aspects of exchange control compliance across all group companies and/or divisions, supporting the overall finance and treasury function at Corporate Office and acting as a key liaison with external financial institutions. This individual will work closely with the Group Finance Executive to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the overall business objectives and support sustainable growth.

This individual will work closely with the Group Finance Executive to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the overall business objectives and support sustainable growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure group-wide exchange control compliance by:
- Monitoring regulatory updates and follow-up training and/or feedback;
- Developing and maintaining internal policies in alignment with regulatory requirements;
- Maintaining a comprehensive compliance register, including exchange control authorities, applications, and renewals.
- Leading internal exchange control meetings, set actionable plans, and communicate regulatory changes.
- Supporting and addressing SARB audits, foreign contracts compliance, and managing cross-border investments and payments.
- Oversee the compilation and submission of exchange control applications and facilitate responses to excon queries and reviews.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with internal divisions, banks, lenders and central authorities.
- Support group strategy for term debt, including bonds, by assisting with scenario analysis, executing debt/facility replacements and co-ordinate the execution of various agreements.
- Ensure alignment with legal, tax, and accounting functions across the group.
- Ensuring accurate application of interest rates and fees, and manage any RFPs.
- Manage general banking facility agreements by reviewing facility letters, coordinating amendments, and optimising costs.
- Drive investment optimization considering risks, market conditions, and maintain / develop policies for internal controls to maximise returns.
- Support the daily cash management and forex trading function at the Corporate Office.
- Update, develop and monitor Group Treasury policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present quarterly Treasury and Finance reports.
- Manage Treasury systems, including user training, building report specifications, testing updates, audit (SWIFT) and handling service provider performance.
- Drive process optimisation and system standardisation through new solutions and automation.
- Support African operations with repatriation structures, economic impact analysis, FX fluctuations, and project consultation on payment terms and liquidity.
- Oversee the external audit process across performance areas.
- Assist Group Finance Executive and Finance & Treasury teams with ad-hoc projects and other key deliverables.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with Honors
- Post graduate qualification advantageous (CIMA, CA or similar)
- 10-12 years related experience of which at least 5 years in a similar or leadership role
- Extensive experience in exchange control compliance in South Africa and Africa
- Very good knowledge and understanding of exchange control and central bank legislations in South Africa and Africa;
- Advanced skills in Microsoft (Excel), Finance and Treasury Management systems, (set-up, integration, training & maintenance)
- Extensive experience in external debt replacements and issuing of new debt (including DMTN Notes or new debt programmes)
- Understanding and working knowledge of the Corporate Investment Banking landscape and Retail Industry
- Proven track record of managing currency risk and optimising foreign exchange transactions
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Good attention to detail
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Able to deal with different individuals at all levels in the organisation
- Take own initiative and have a solutions-oriented approach
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy and quality
- Proactive approach with the ability to think ahead in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and be a knowledge expert
- Emotional maturity, resilience and stress tolerance;
- Leadership and people management skills
