Summary:
The Construction Manager will oversee construction projects within the petrochemical oil and gas industry, ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and project timelines and budgets. This role involves leading a team of construction professionals, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise cross-functional teams and subcontractors.
- Provide training and development for team members to uphold high standards of work.
- Promote company values and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Oversee day-to-day construction operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety protocols.
- Identify and address potential issues proactively to minimize disruptions
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure all work meets industry standards and client expectations.
- Enforce compliance with safety regulations and company policies on construction sites.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing regular updates to the management team and stakeholders.
- Ensure the availability of necessary tools, equipment, materials, and other resources for construction activities.
- Recommend cost-saving measures and efficiencies where possible
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or changes in scope.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, safety, and quality teams to coordinate construction activities and minimize disruptions.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including reports, schedules, and change orders
- Minimum Grade 12 and N3 in related trade.
- A diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management.
- SACPCMP (CM or CPM) registration preferred.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, with a track record of managing construction teams
- Familiarity with the South African petrochemical industry and local regulations.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction processes, project management principles and project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera).
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Risk Management: Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate potential project risks.
- Contract Management: Experience in managing contracts.
- Crisis Management: Swift response to unexpected challenges with effective solutions.
- Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable practices.
- Mentoring and Coaching: Developing junior team members and fostering improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
