Responsibilities
  • The Dive Safety Officer will assist the Director in the management, administration, and coordination of dive operations on the Panama City Campus. This position will focus on dive education, maintenance of life saving equipment and retaining and maintaining AAUS certification.
  • Responsible to the director for ensuring safety of all FSU-PC dive operations. Will maintain the FSU-PC Dive Manual, attend the Diving Control Board, and submit annual statistics, ensuring all policies and procedures are in accordance with the International Association of NITROX and Technical Divers (IANTD) and American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS).
  • Responsible to the director for creating and maintaining detailed records for all students engaged in diving activities. Additionally, will assist the Dive Locker Manager by creating or maintaining detailed preventative maintenance schedules for all life support equipment, technology, vessels, and vehicles and assisting in preventative or corrective maintenance when necessary.
  • Responsible for Providing Instruction in Scientific Diving - teaches compressed-gas diving, rescue diving, cavern diving, public safety diving and other courses to qualify students, staff, faculty, and other scientists as scientific divers consistent with American Academy of Underwater Sciences and Florida State University Panama City Diving Standards.
  • Conduct law enforcement training courses for the UCSI program and conduct marketing efforts to recruit public safety personnel to engage in professional development opportunities offered at FSUPC. Conduct advanced training sessions for scientific divers from external organizations.
  • Serve as Acting Director and other duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
  • Scuba Instructor Certification with an internationally recognized certification organization (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc..).
  • Scuba Regulator Repair Technician certification.
  • US Coast Guard license for Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) or able to achieve licensing within six months.
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and four years experience.
  • Experience as an AAUS recognized DSO, Aqualung Regulator Technician, Kirby Morgan Repair Technician, Ocean Technology Systems Full Face Mask Technician, or US Coast Guard 25/50 Masters License or higher.
  • Experience in a related science or research services field or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.
  • Experience in oversight of a dive program or locker, including oversight and documentation of maintenance.

Anticipated Salary Range

Starting in the low $50,000's, commensurate with education and experience.
