Manaaki Whenua is New Zealand's Crown Research Institute (CRI) for our land and environment. We are responsible for supporting New Zealand to develop a sustainable relationship with our land, through the delivery of exceptional science across a wide range of disciplines.
The Wildlife Ecology & Management team at Manaaki Whenua carries out research focused on protecting native ecosystems and primary industry. Projects include determining pest responses to management, the role of pests as vectors of wildlife disease, development of novel pest control tools, and the development of cost-effective ground- and aerial-based pest management strategies
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
We are seeking an animal facility technician to join the team at the Manaaki Whenua-Landcare Research Animal Facility, in Lincoln, Canterbury, to help care for captive wild-caught and laboratory animals. It involves the daily care of animals (feeding and cleaning), trapping of feral animals and maintenance of the facility as required. The position is 18-month fixed term, full time (37.5 hours per week) and is based at our Lincoln site.
Ō pūmanawa | About you
This role requires a capable, practical person who is comfortable carrying out daily husbandry tasks for multiple animal species. You will have experience in working with wild-caught animals and an interest in animal research, animal care, and pest control. Ideally you will also have the skills and experience to carry out minor maintenance on buildings, watering systems and fences. This position would suit a person with a rural background.
