What You Will Get To Do

For approximately six (6) months of the year, this role works in the position of Labourer (Parks) reporting to the Supervisor of Operations (Parks), and is under the daily direction of the Working Foreperson(s).
The Labourer (Parks) is responsible for:
-
primarily, assisting with general duties within the Forestry workgroup such as planting, pruning, chipping, watering, mulching and/or removals;
-
assisting the Horticulture/Turf workgroup with ongoing maintenance such as fertilizing, watering, weeding and/or removals;
-
assisting the General Maintenance workgroup with garbage collection, preparation and clean-up for special events, and repairs/maintenance of various park facilities/structures;
-
assisting with general duties within the Grounds Maintenance workgroup such as grass cutting, leaf/debris clean-up and other related ground maintenance and/or repair duties;
-
winter snow and/or ice control operations;
-
providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and/or staff; and
-
ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
-
other duties as required and assigned.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities (Arenas), the Facility Attendant is responsible for:
-
the general maintenance, cleaning and repairs of the facility and grounds;
-
the maintenance of ice surfaces, including the operation of an ice resurfacing machine, edger, light motorized vehicles and other related equipment;
-
maintaining pool and water filtration systems;
-
responding to public and staff inquiries;
-
providing training, advice and direction to part-time maintenance staff; and
-
other duties as may be required.

What You Bring To Our Team
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
-
minimum of Grade 12 education;
-
possess at least twelve (12) months of experience in a recreation facility with an arena operation;
-
possess at least twelve (12) months of general maintenance experience with six (6) months of ice maintenance related experience;a minimum of twelve (12) months directly related experience with parks and/or forestry/landscape maintenance;
-
maintain, in good standing, a valid Class “DZ” Driver’s Licence;
-
a demonstrated ability to safely operate vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W., including tandem axle vehicles;
-
current certifications in Certified Pool Operator (CPO); Basic Refrigeration; and Safe Ice Resurfacer Operator, maintained in good standing;
-
Working At Heights or Lift Specific Certificationcurrent certification in CPR/AED (Level C) and Standard First Aid;
-
a demonstrated ability to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
-
the ability to operate various tools and equipment in a safe manner;
-
physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. in varying weather conditions;
-
a successful completion of Defensive Driving training, preferred; and
-
a valid, satisfactory police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector.
Salary:
-
Labourer (Parks): $27.49 – $34.39 per hour (Band G)
Facility Attendant, Arenas:$29.38 - $36.74 per hour (Band F) - Benefits and retirement plan offered in accordance to Corporate programs and/or the applicable Collective Agreement

Flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
Facility Attendant, Arenas
Flex hours and rotating shift work, including days, afternoons, nights and weekends, forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
