We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Coordinator Environment and Sustainability to lead the newly established Environmental Sustainability Team and shape a more sustainable future for Mackay.


About this opportunity:
The Coordinator Environment and Sustainability leads the development and coordinates the implementation of council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, Natural Environment Management Plan and related governance frameworks.
Under limited direction, the position provides highly developed technical advice relating to sustainability and works collaboratively with others to achieve organisational goals and targets.


Key Responsibilities:

• Implement a coordinated organisational approach to achieve strategic environmental sustainability outcomes.
• Champion council’s environmental vision and achievements through collaboration within the organisation and community.
• Foster partnerships and pursue funding opportunities to support council's environmental initiatives.
• Oversee the review and execution of council's Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Natural Environment Plan.
• Develop and implement an effective environmental and sustainability performance reporting framework.
• Conduct research, analyse data, and provide recommendations on best-practice sustainability and climate change initiatives. sustainability initiatives.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

• Degree or diploma in environment, sustainability, planning, or a related field
• QLD "C" Class Driver’s Licence
• Extensive experience in sustainability, environmental or strategic planning.
• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing sustainability policies, strategies, and projects.
• Strong ability to build collaborative and respectful relationships with stakeholders.

Desirable:

• Postgraduate qualifications or training in sustainability, environment, or climate risk.
• Experience in local government or managing environmental sustainability plans.
• Knowledge of strategic risk assessments, energy/carbon management, and environmental planning.
