Duties
  • Serve as the Assistant.
  • Direct the work of firefighting crews engaged in various activities to include, but not limited to, fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material response and containment.
  • Direct the work of firefighting crews engaged in various activities to include, but not limited to, emergency medical response, facility fire risk surveys and public education campaigns.
  • Serve as a senior administrative staff member sharing in the overall management of the division.
  • Assume operational control at emergency incidents directing firefighting crews until relieved.
Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Secret Clearance will also be required.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with Do DM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift 45 lbs. or more in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions .
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • As a "Key" position, the incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • Position may be subject to administrative or rotating shifts. Based on mission requirements, position may work 56 or 60 hours a week, per pay period. Incumbent may be required to work overtime as the need arises.
  • TDY travel is occasionally required.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes supervising or directing firefighting and fire protection inspection activities; supervising or directing the operational maintenance of firefighting equipment and apparatus; evaluating fire crew performance and implementing training plans to ensure all performance standards are met; and conducting or developing training for drills and firefighting scenarios. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must have the following Do D, IFSAC or Pro Board professional certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and HAZMAT Incident Commander and Airport Firefighter.
