Job Description
The Brushfire Literature & Arts Journal is a student-run organization at UNR that publishes two journals per year (one per semester). These journals showcase the artwork being made by students at UNR, and by artists at the local level. With each new edition, Brushfire produces printed, digital, and audio-versions of the journal. All art reviewed and published by Brushfire is submitted through our website.
Brushfire Literature and Arts Journal is seeking a student to fill the position of Audio Book Producer. The Audiobook Producer is responsible for creating, editing, and managing all audio-content featured on the Brushfire’s website. This means that the Audiobook Producer will record and edit readings of the latest editions of the journal and blog posts. They will also conduct recorded interviews with students or local artists at least once each month. Occasionally, the Audiobook Producer will be asked to record and report on a major Brushfire event or performance, both as a way to generate content for the website, and as a way to connect the public with Brushfire’s events and activities. But this will be carried out selectively and notice of such events will be given weeks in advance. Once recordings are complete, you will upload them to platforms such as Brushfire’s website and Spotify. You will also assist with the submission review process and perform other tasks as needed to support the team. Lastly, the Audiobook Producer will be required to attend staff meetings regularly as well as poetry night, but may opt-out if given permission by the Executive Editor.
That being said, it is of crucial importance that the Audiobook Producer:
Maintains a basic yet solid understanding of how to record and edit audio-content Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills Shows skill in organizing meetings/sticking to deadlines Shows strength and persistence in terms of collaborating and following up with peers or co-workers
This will allow Brushfire to widen our audience and allow more people to access Brushfire.
Since much of the work the Audiobook Producer will do is collaborative in nature, they can count on the regular assistance of the Executive and the Staff Writer and when it comes to uploading audio-files, structuring interview questions, editing recordings, and contacting artists. They can also expect to work alongside volunteers.
