Job Summary
Essential Functions
- Instructs a diverse population of students, including students in high school bridge programs in a classroom, lab, clinical, and field internship setting, online, hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats; uses learning-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques, etc.
- Develops instructional materials and curricula; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; may hire and evaluate adjunct faculty; may coordinate program activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning, etc.
- Maintains academic support hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship, and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate student research, STEAM activities, and programs; participates in integrated public healthcare programs and activities; participates in interdisciplinary activities with MCCCD allied healthcare programs; participates in internships with business/industry/community partners; develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students; facilitates interprofessional relationships, etc.
- Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops and enhances knowledge of pedagogy related to the emergency medical services and mobile integrated health disciplines as well as the pedagogy of adult learners and underprepared students; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor’s degree or higher OR
- A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field
Desired Qualifications
- Associates Degree from an accredited college/university or higher needed to meet CAAHEP/Co AEMSP Lead Faculty educational requirements.
- Three (3) or more years experience teaching in a CAAHEP/Co AEMSP accredited Paramedicine program.
- Current (AHA) American Heart Association BLS, ACLS & PALS Instructor credential in good standing.
- Current (NAEMT) National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians AMLS & PHTLS Instructor credential in good standing.
- Current (AAP) American Association of Pediatrics PEPP Instructor credential in good standing.
- Recent work experience as a Paramedic and/or Registered Nurse in the clinical and/or pre-hospital care settings.
- Experience serving as Program Director in EMT/EMS/Paramedicine education.
- Experience serving as a National Registry of EMT's Psychomotor Site Coordinator
- Experience serving as an EMS, Clinical, or Field Internship Coordinator within an EMS organization
- Experience implementing and monitoring measures to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation policies and requirements of federal, state, and local agencies, including AZBTEMS, Co AEMSP or CAAHEP
Special Working Conditions
- May teach at MCC Downtown Center, Red Mountain, and Dobson & Southern campuses.
- May be required to travel to other off-site locations or MCCCD locations.
- Based on the needs of the Allied Health Department, instructors may be required to teach evening, weekend, hybrid, in-person, and/or synchronous online classes.
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer monitor.
- May be required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Local travel is required.
- Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate’s own expense.
- MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas

Additional Requirements
- Currently hold in good standing a National Registry of EMT's Paramedic certification, or Arizona State EMS certification/license as a Paramedic OR Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Medical Doctor/DO in the State of Arizona.
- Must meet Maricopa Community Colleges Allied Health Policies, immunization, drug screening, and other related requirements to precept students in the clinical and field internship settings.
- Required to obtain a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card and pass a MCCCD comprehensive background screening check
- Must have current, good standing American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor credentials
- Additional credentials as a National Association of EMT's (NAEMT) Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) and Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Instructor is preferred
- Additional credentials as an American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) PEPP Instructor are preferred
