Job Summary:
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections is seeking a Nurse Practitioner who will oversee the
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program for Health Services while working under the supervision of
the ADJC Medical Director or designee, in close collaboration with other health professionals working for
ADJC Health Services, to optimize health care delivery to the juvenile population at Adobe Mountain School.
The Nurse Practitioner will promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement throughout the
organization. Under the guidance of the ADJC Medical Director, the primary responsibility of the Nurse
Practitioner is to design and implement a robust quality improvement strategy aligned with ADJC’s goals and
objectives. This includes ensuring that ADJC maintains CQI processes and documentation, including
conducting root cause analysis efforts and implementing corrective actions, when necessary.

Job Duties:
The Job Duties of the Nurse Practitioner are:
  • Responsible for providing guidance to members of a multidisciplinary team, with a variety of backgrounds
in correctional healthcare including nursing, mental health, utilization management, and administration
  • Ensure the team’s alignment with the overall strategy, providing guidance, support and training to team
members
  • Developing a monitoring program and providing oversight of CQI studies, consistent with ADJC policies
and procedures and National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) Standards
  • Will be a physician assistant with an active license. In addition to administrative duties, the job will include
evaluating and treating juvenile patients at Adobe Mountain School
  • After-hours on-call duties are part of the job requirements. The overall time spent on clinical duties will
vary from week to week but will comprise approximately 30% of the Nurse Practitioner’s total work hours
  • The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for communicating regularly with ADJC
Medical Director or designee through in-person meetings, virtual meetings and email. This includes status
updates on CQI study development and progression, including any challenges encountered
  • Also provides recommendations on updates to existing clinical practice guidelines and policies and
procedures as assigned by the ADJC Medical Director or Designee
  • The Nurse Practitioner performs other duties as assigned by the ADJC Medical
Director or designee
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of correctional health care management and supervision as set forth by the United
States Constitution and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care
  • Personnel and administrative procedures
  • Federal laws and State laws relative to licensed and/or certified health care staff, as well as general staff
  • Procedures analysis and policy development
  • Laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the administration of inmate medical, mental
health and dental care
  • Action plan development
  • Principles and practices of quality assurance
  • Project planning development and implementation strategies
  • Principles of fiscal management including a budget, procurement and outside contracting
  • Computer skill in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite and the Department standardized databases

Selective Preference(s):
Three (3) years of correctional healthcare experience, including the care of patients with medical and
psychiatric disorders. Five (5) years of clinical experience in a primary care field (e.g., family medicine,
internal medicine, emergency medicine). Two (2) years of managerial experience providing oversight to staff
members in a clinical setting. Proficiency in performing hands-on medical procedures including suturing,
splinting, casting, incision and drainage, pelvic examinations and toenail removal.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
REQUIRED: Must possess a Nurse Practitioner license without restrictions in the State of Arizona. Graduate
of an accredited physician assistant program. Certification by a physician assistant certifying body (e.g.,
NCCPA). Continuous Quality Improvement experience. Policy and procedure development experience.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following
requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a
current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all
necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or
suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain
acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally
owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona
Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
