The W.E.B. Du Bois – Harvey Honors College at Jackson State is seeking an Education Specialist to work at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This position will support NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS). This position requires the ability to obtain a public trust clearance.

NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) is a STEM engagement activity for community college students seeking to transfer to a 4-year institution or go directly to the labor force. NCAS uses NASA’s unique expertise, research, facilities, and other resources in aerospace to engage students in authentic and experiential learning opportunities. Three consecutive mission experiences are offered alongside an opportunity to apply for a paid internship. NCAS also partners with Minority Serving Institutions enabling them to engage students in similar experiences that are scaled to the institutions’ STEM networks.

• Deliver STEM engagement experiences using trending instructional and professional development strategies and current NASA messaging and content information.
• Develop, review, and revise NCAS products and content for pedagogy, usability, mission alignment, course integrity, learning management system integration, and appropriateness of selected course materials.
• Use innovations and technologies that broaden student participation, improve student experiences, and advance student skill sets and/or increase student marketability in STEM fields.
• Provide participant feedback reports from participants and gather debrief reports following each NCAS Mission.
• Support and/or participate in STEM ecosystems events, meetings, and activities that serve community college students.
• Coordinate the placement of NCAS Alumni in NASA Internship opportunities, facilitate intern involvement In ongoing NCAS activities, and raise awareness of internship opportunities amongst NCAS participants.
• Solicit and coordinate subject matter expert (SME) engagements with NCAS through invitations to NASA employees and industry partners to support planned STEM engagement experiences.
• Research, conceptualize, and implement strategies for recruiting community college students from the United States and its territories to participate in NCAS missions and internship opportunities.
• Meet weekly with the NCAS Activity Manager to review the recruitment plan, provide updates, and address any circumstances impacting the recruitment efforts.
• Travel to planned in-person events to support NCAS Missions, Conferences, and STEM Engagement events at NASA Field Centers & Partner Institutes.
• Contribute to iterative lessons learned and continuous project improvement.
• Support the development of conference proposals.
