The Opportunity: This is a temporary position starting in . Candidates must be available for the full duration of the assignment. The HR & Benefits Specialist (Temporary) will assist in providing a wide range of HR support in areas of benefits administration, talent acquisition, employee relations, and compliance. The role will be responsible for administering, training, and creating efficiencies in our HRIS system.
What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities:
  • Manages and administers employee benefits programs, such as health insurance and 401k, and communicates benefits information to employees and assists inquiries.
  • Conducts audits of various payroll and benefits reports and recommends corrective action.
  • Works with broker and communicates with vendors on file feeds and corrections.
  • Ensures that the organization is compliant with all laws and regulations related to employee benefits.
  • Coordinates educational sessions or seminars to maximize benefits utilization and understanding of total rewards program.
  • Develops policies related to employee benefits, such as eligibility requirements, coverage options, and cost-sharing arrangements.
  • Assists in managing the organization's HRIS, which includes maintaining data accuracy, generating reports, and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Streamlines HR processes, such as onboarding, offboarding, and benefits administration, by implementing technology solutions and efficiencies.
  • Responds to employment verifications and employee related forms for EDD disability and unemployment.
  • Develops metrics and generates reports to communicate usages, trends and provide information for better decision making.
  • Assists with the recruitment and staffing process, including posting job openings, screening resumes, completing reference checking, and coordinating candidate communication.
  • Creates and maintains job descriptions for all positions within the organization, ensuring that they are accurate and updated.
  • Champions company culture by coordinating employee recognition programs, employee engagement activities, and wellness initiatives.
  • Manages the onboarding process including delivering, collecting, and auditing new hire paperwork, I-9 verification, coordinating orientation and training and conducting new-employee orientation.
  • Manages the approval and documentation of employee training.
  • Administers and tracks Leave of Absence (LOA) requests and sends out all necessary notices to employees on a LOA to maintain compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, including employee handbooks, job descriptions, and performance management.
  • Maintains compliance calendar to ensure completion of all required federal, state, and local reporting. Ensures compliance with required workplace postings at all worksites and electronically.
  • Manages employee compliance training program and tracks (re)certification requirements. Manages approval and documentation for professional development membership, training and certification.
  • Supports safety requirements including documentation and tracking.
  • Participates in semi-monthly payroll meetings and serves as back-up for payroll processing working closely with Finance Manager
  • Responds to employee inquiries for HR, benefits, and payroll.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year HR experience, preferably in benefits and compliance.
  • SHRM or PHR certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge using an integrated HRIS, preferably Paycom.
  • Benefits and compliance experience
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must work effectively both independently, as well as in a team-based, fast-paced environment.
  • Follows through on tasks to completion and asks questions when necessary to ensure accuracy and to foster solid communication.
  • Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Work is performed both in an office setting and at construction sites and may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level at construction sites may vary and may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
Compensation Disclaimer:
Gafcon's compensation range for this opportunity is between $24.04 - $30 per hour. Individual pay decisions will vary based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and market conditions. While we strive to provide competitive compensation within our range, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at, or near, the top of the salary range. Our approach considers various factors including external market data, internal equity considerations, and the candidate's experience. Gafcon also offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of our overall compensation strategy.
