Home4U Cardiff is a small charity based in Cardiff, where we provide temporary accommodation to individuals seeking asylum who are destitute and have no recourse to public funds. The simple, safe, and essential accommodation we offer gives individuals a much-needed period of respite to regain their dignity and access good legal advice about their situation enabling them to make the best possible decisions.
Our work extends beyond providing accommodation. We help cover essential items such as food and toiletries for all our residents. Our team of staff works closely with each individual to help them find volunteering opportunities or enrol in college, aiding their personal development and encouraging constructive use of their time.
Additionally, we support individuals in integrating into their local community, helping them build meaningful connections and live more normal and fulfilling lives.
This role involves working from home with regular travel across Cardiff to provide direct support and management to our occupants and referrals.
Job Summary
The Resident Outreach and Property Officer will combine property management with resident welfare support to ensure safe, welcoming accommodation and tailored assistance for individuals seeking asylum. This role prioritises resident wellbeing, case progression, and safeguarding, while promoting independence and facilitating access to external support services.
Safeguarding and lone working are integral in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Resident Welfare and Support:
- Provide person centered support to residents, including creating personalised move-on plans and connecting them with appropriate support services.
- Act as the first point of contact for residents, offering a supportive and understanding environment while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Promote resident wellbeing by addressing physical, mental, and emotional needs, and encouraging confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies to ensure residents receive appropriate support, such as mental health or domestic abuse services.
- Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed when interacting with vulnerable individuals.
- Ensure properties are maintained to a high standard, addressing cleanliness, safety, and repairs promptly.
- Conduct regular property checks to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Prepare rooms for new residents and ensure they are welcomed with clear information about house rules and safety procedures.
- Identify and address safeguarding concerns, escalating issues to the appropriate individuals or agencies as required.
- Adhere to organisational safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring residents' safety and wellbeing remain a priority.
- Assist residents with accessing legal advice and progressing their asylum cases, including supporting individuals with practical tasks like gathering evidence drafting emails.
- Attend appointments with residents, providing emotional and logistical support when necessary.
- Stay informed on case progress and ensure residents are proactive in managing their situations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions, appointments, and progress made by residents.
- Share information with the wider team as appropriate, ensuring a coordinated and consistent approach to resident support.
- Monitor and report on residents' progress, wellbeing, and any safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policies.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with residents from diverse backgrounds.
- A clear understanding of safeguarding principles and the ability to apply them effectively.
- Experience supporting individuals facing challenging circumstances, including mental health or wellbeing needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with external organisations to support residents.
- Strong organisational skills to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
- A commitment to promoting independence and empowering residents to take ownership of their journeys.
- Ability to travel locally for outreach, appointments, and property checks.
- Ability to use Microsoft 365
- Experience working with individuals seeking asylum or those with no recourse to public funds.
- Knowledge of the asylum process and associated legal frameworks.
- Understanding of housing regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience working within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge of property management, including maintaining safe and welcoming accommodation.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, which is insured for business use.
- Willingness to undergo a standard DBS check.
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: £13,200.00 per year
Expected hours: 18 per week
