Head of EAL (English as Another Language)
High Wycombe
FULL TIME
November 29, 2024
Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teacher of English as a Foreign Language, who will lead the EAL Department in an inspirational manner. About 20% of our girls are international pupils, from the European countries as well as Africa and the Far East. Some of these international pupils speak English as an additional language and require tailored lessons in EAL as part of their overall programme of study.
The Head of EAL will make a significant contribution to the academic and all-round progress of the international pupils. They will assess their level of English, devise an individual schedule of EAL lessons and manage the department. The Head of EAL will teach a busy timetable of lessons, as well as leading the team of EAL teachers who also deliver individual and group lessons. Close liaison with the academic and pastoral staff teams is essential to ensure that pupils flourish in line with our ethos of encouraging them to be confident, happy and successful. An inspirational and innovative department head, the Head of EAL chooses a blend of modern and traditional resources, teaching material and technology for the delivery of the EAL programme, holding budget responsibility. Communications with all members of the School community are essential reflecting our vision that the international pupils add a special dimension to our vibrant School.
If you are ready for a challenge, have vision and the determination to succeed, as well as a proven record of successful EAL teaching, we want to hear from you.
Please do so by clicking on the 'Quick Apply' button.
Interviews will take place during December 2024.
Please note that the School reserves the right to interview on receipt of applications and to appoint prior to the deadline, so early application is recommended.
Godstowe School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check before taking up the post, along with pre-employment safeguarding checks.
About Godstowe School
Something Special is happening at Godstowe
Godstowe was founded by two strong, progressive women, originally in fact as a school whose purpose would be to prepare girls for the move down the hill to Wycombe Abbey School. Their vision was for an innovative, academic and broad education for girls and, without a doubt, this continues to live on in today’s school.
Our ethos is simple. All we want is for our girls and boys to be Confident, Happy and Successful. Indeed, if the first two are true, the third will almost certainly follow. Success is defined in many ways, and we mean successful in the broadest sense: successfully kind, successfully courteous as well as successful in achieving a wide range of goals. We keep our pupils busy and engaged, we entertain and intrigue them, encourage them, and excite them. Happy children are easy to teach.
With outstanding, highly qualified teaching staff as well as a strong and experienced pastoral team, excellent facilities, wonderful surroundings, a non-selective intake policy and a more positive, exuberant and industrious atmosphere than you will find in other schools, it is likely that most of our children will be happy to learn, happy to stretch themselves, happy to support each other, and happy to do whatever they can to take an active part in their own education. Why push children through the curriculum when they can be inspired to make their own journey, choose their own routes and arrive at their destination under their own steam?
Our pupils love their time at school. It never ceases to amaze me just how much highly motivated and enthusiastic people can willingly contribute, and we don’t just mean the girls and boys, we mean the staff and the parents too! Godstowe is alive with opportunity. Remember, to learn a lesson you need to live it.
