The team comprises more than 300 staff spread throughout business units as well as corporate level activities such as IP, litigation, employment, M&A and investment. The largest team of lawyers works in Hangzhou, and we also have lawyers in other cities in Mainland China, as well as Hong Kong, Paris, Madrid, London, South East Asia, and the U.S. Many of our lawyers are bilingual and have worked in other leading companies and law firms. The legal work is dynamic, fast-paced and challenging.Position Sought We seek to hire a legal counsel of commercial legal who will be a key member of the growing legal team supporting Ali Express consumer facing e-commerce platform and services in South Korea. The attorney will be based in Seoul.Primary Responsibilities Reporting to General Counsel, Ali Express or a member of her team, advise on legal aspects of the platform’s international expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings, with a focus on South Korea. Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings. Research local laws and regulations in the local jurisdictions and manage outside counsel. Provide advice on platform compliance, product listing compliance, local and cross border logistics, import/export, and payment acceptance. Negotiate, draft, and review contracts, commercial agreements and policies. Develop in-house legal tools and policies, and conduct trainings to business units.
Position Requirement
Key Requirements Qualified lawyer in South Korea. Strong plus to have a bachelor of laws degree from a common law jurisdiction For legal counsel, 7+ years, and for associate legal counsel, 2-7 years of post-qualification experience at a top tier Korean or international law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is highly welcome, strong preference for e-commerce/tech related. Experience with e-commerce, and/or cross-border trade transactions (such as product listing compliance, import/export, logistics, payments, financing, etc.) preferred. Proficiency in Korean and English is essential. Strong plus to have fluency in Chinese. Highly-motivated and able to balance priorities, meet deadlines, manage time and work independently and under pressure in a start-up environment. Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training. High integrity and desire to collaborate with others. Eligible to work in South Korea. Open to international travel.
