Job Purpose:The EHS Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the implementation of environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures on the construction site. The role focuses on maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring that all site personnel adhere to legal, regulatory, and Worley standards for safety and environmental protection. The EHS Lead will proactively identify risks, manage safety training, and enforce safety standards to mitigate accidents and promote a culture of safety on-site.

Responsibilities:
  • EHS Strategy and Planning:
    • Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) plans and policies.
    • Collaborate with project managers and site teams to ensure EHS requirements are integrated into daily construction operations and activities.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions to address identified hazards and environmental concerns.
  • Site Safety and Health Management:
    • Oversee the development and execution of safety programs, including toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency drills.
    • Monitor construction site activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
    • Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses, providing root cause analysis and developing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
    • Ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce the wearing of PPE at all times on-site.
    • Implement safety signage, barriers, and other protective measures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Environmental Protection and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international environmental regulations, including waste management, pollution control, water usage, and energy consumption.
    • Develop and manage waste management systems on-site, including the safe disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
    • Monitor the site for environmental hazards such as soil erosion, contamination, and other impacts, taking proactive measures to prevent environmental harm.
    • Ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • EHS Training and Awareness:
    • Conduct regular EHS training for site personnel, including new employee inductions, refresher courses, and specialized safety training.
    • Ensure that all workers are aware of their safety and environmental responsibilities and understand the proper procedures for handling equipment and materials.
    • Keep up to date with industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices, and implement relevant changes on-site.
  • EHS Audits and Inspections:
    • Perform regular safety audits, inspections, and site walk-throughs to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and compliance gaps.
    • Conduct internal EHS audits and ensure that any identified deficiencies are addressed promptly and appropriately.
    • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, audits, training sessions, and corrective actions.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting:
    • Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, and near-misses, ensuring all incidents are documented and that the root cause is identified.
    • Report incidents to the appropriate authorities as required by law and Worley policy.
    • Implement corrective and preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
  • Collaboration with Site Teams:
    • Work closely with the construction team, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure EHS protocols are followed and that safety is a priority at all levels of the project.
    • Act as a liaison between the construction site and the company’s corporate EHS department, ensuring consistent implementation of EHS strategies and practices.
    • Promote and maintain an open communication channel regarding safety concerns, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • EHS Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of all safety and environmental activities, including incident reports, safety meetings, inspection results, and regulatory compliance.
    • Prepare and submit regular EHS reports to site management, project managers, and other key stakeholders.
    • Ensure that all required EHS documentation is in place and up-to-date, including safety data sheets, permits, and safety logs.
  • Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
    • Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and fire safety measures.
    • Ensure that emergency response teams are trained and equipped to handle potential emergencies such as fire, medical, or hazardous material spills.
    • Lead emergency drills and exercises to ensure readiness in case of an incident.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
    • Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) is required.
    • Additional certifications in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001) or emergency response (e.g., First Aid, CPR) are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in EHS management, preferably in the construction industry.
    • Experience with safety management on large-scale construction projects, with knowledge of industry-specific hazards and regulatory requirements.
    • Familiarity with construction operations, heavy machinery, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of EHS laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Proven ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
