Admission Requirements:
Candidates must have a master's degree in electrical engineering, informatics engineering, or related topics and be enrolled in a Ph D program in electrical and computer engineering, intelligent systems, or related fields, or in a non-degree higher education course. They must have proven knowledge of real-time software programming, embedded systems, processing-in-memory systems, parallel programming of GPUs using CUDA, Open CL and Open ACC. Strong Matlab/Simulink, Python, and C/C++ programming knowledge is equally required. Candidates with skills on error correcting codes, image processing and Linux operating systems are preferred. Experience with hardware development and system integration, are greatly valued.

Work Objectives:
The objective of this project is to program Processing-in-Memory accelerators for running LDPC decoders in real-time. To this end, UPMEM and other types of Pi M accelerators will be programmed and analyzed to address challenges such as data transfers, synchronization and multithreading.
Therefore, the detailed objectives of this scholarship are: (i) investigating and programming parallel Pi M accelerators; (ii) develop an optimized Pi M-based LDPC decoder; (iii) validate the system through experiments with known LDPC codes, running under low-power parallel computing architectures and real-time performance.

Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at Coimbra, under the supervision of Prof. Gabriel Falcão.

Duration:
3 months, with the possibility of renewal. Start date: January 1, 2025 or soon thereafter.

Monthly salary:
1.259,64 € (net), according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

  Demonstrated experience in tasks related to the work plan of this project

  Oral and written fluency in English

Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:
F = C1 x 50% + C2 x 40% + C3 x 10%
In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
