Senior Designer/Manager Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Designer and Manager with 10+ years of experience to lead the design and production team at Sheworks. This role focuses on collaborating with women artisans to create heritage textile products reimagined for contemporary markets. The ideal candidate will oversee the creative and operational aspects of design and production, mentor junior designers, and ensure alignment with senior management’s vision and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities. Leadership & Management:

• Lead and manage the design and production team, ensuring smooth execution of tasks and meeting project deadlines.
• Mentor junior designers and empower them to refine their skills while maintaining the brand’s design ethos.
• Act as a bridge between senior management, artisans, and the internal team to implement directives effectively.
• Develop and manage production schedules and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.

2. Artisan Collaboration & Product Development:

• Work closely with women artisans to develop innovative, high-quality heritage textile products.
• Blend traditional techniques with modern design to create unique, market-ready collections.
• Provide technical and creative guidance to artisans to enhance their craft and align with contemporary trends.
• Build strong relationships with artisan communities, respecting their cultural heritage and traditional practices.

3. Design & Creative Oversight:

• Lead the creative direction of Sheworks, ensuring designs align with the brand’s mission and contemporary market trends.
• Review and approve design concepts, ensuring consistency, innovation, and market relevance.
• Stay informed about global design trends and techniques to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
• Ensure all designs maintain the integrity of heritage textiles while appealing to modern consumers.

4. System Management & Operations:

• Oversee the end-to-end design and production process, implementing systems to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
• Ensure quality control across all production stages, from prototypes to final products.
• Address operational challenges promptly and effectively while maintaining alignment with company policies.

5. Collaboration & Communication:

• Collaborate with other departments (e.g., marketing, sales, and procurement) to align design and production with business objectives.
• Maintain transparent communication with senior management, artisans, and team members, providing regular updates and incorporating feedback.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative work environment that values creativity and teamwork.

Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Fashion, Textiles, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in design and production, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
• Experience working with artisan communities and heritage textiles is highly preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Exceptional creative and conceptual design abilities, with an understanding of heritage textiles and contemporary markets.
• Proficient in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Knowledge of sustainable production practices and quality control systems.
