The position

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan invites applications for the role of Senior Architect to be based in Karachi. The selected candidate as part of the existing planning & design team, will help in creating spaces that reflect cultural and community values, ensuring functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. The role will revolve around the functions that include the following:
Assist Manager Planning & Design in the creation of design concepts for various community development projects, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and vision.
Develop project drawings, renderings, and models, supporting the design team throughout the planning and construction phases.
Collaborate on the design and technical aspects of projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare construction documentation, including detailed drawings, specifications, and design guidelines.
Contribute to sustainability initiatives, integrating energy-efficient and low-impact materials into project designs.
Create innovative and culturally sensitive architectural designs for community centres.
Ensure designs align with local building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards. Integrate community feedback into design iterations.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and requirements.
Support project management efforts by assisting in scheduling, budgeting, and overseeing various phases of project execution.
Conduct regular site visits to ensure construction adheres to design specifications.
Address any design-related issues or modifications during the construction phase.
Collaborate with the project management team to develop and manage project budgets.
Identify cost-effective solutions without compromising design quality.

The requirements

Qualification and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution (Master’s preferred).
5 - 6 years of post-qualification professional experience in architectural design, preferably with community development or non-profit projects.
Experience with sustainable and affordable housing design is a plus.
Past coordination experience with engineering firms; exposure to site top supervision and preparation and review of IFC package is preferred.

Skills and knowledge:
Proficiency in architectural design software (Auto CAD, Revit, Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite). Experience working with BIM will be advantageous.
Understanding of building codes, zoning regulations, and sustainability standards (LEED / EDGE certification or similar is a plus).
Strong understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient design principles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
