Vacuum Technician

As a Vacuum Technician, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure used to operate, control and monitor our laboratory instruments, many of which operate in high- or ultra-high vacuum conditions. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet both project requirements and industry standards.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned as needed:

Work directly with the laboratory squad to establish and maintain day-to-day operations within the laboratory, including safety, inventory, equipment, and service needs.

Install, maintain and operate high- and ultra-high vacuum equipment and systems according to the needs of the hardware team.

Execute laboratory experiments according to standard procedures, make observations, and interpret findings.

Act as point of contact for deliveries, packing, shipping, and ordering of chemicals, laboratory equipment, and office supplies.

Manage vendor relations by contacting and scheduling vendors for calibrations, qualifications and/or repairs of equipment and instrumentation. Escort vendors through the facility.

Perform preventive maintenance functions as directed.

Assist maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.

Maintain company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment as well as records of experiments and data collected.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Identify and troubleshoot issues that may arise during experiments, collaborate with colleagues to find solutions, and improve experimental processes.

Oversee laser safety protocols and training.

This job also includes the responsibility of keeping the labs operational, clean, and safe.
QUALIFICATIONS (suggestions by morten)

BSc degree in Science/Engineering or related field required. MSc/Ph D preferred

Experience working with high- and ultra-high vacuum equipment and systems

Experience in a research lab or industry managing lab facilities and instruments

Experience in industry or in a research lab setting up and operating complex instrumentation

Experience working in clean room environments
-
Experience in communicating with and working across diverse teams to deliver common project goals Competencies: Team player, persistence/resilience, pro-active with sense of urgency, quick learner, good communicator, growth mindset.

Experience developing hardware (optical, electrical, mechanical, scientific)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
As a Vacuum Technician you should have detailed knowledge and specialist technical skills across a range of scientific instruments and techniques involving high and ultrahigh vacuum. You should have extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of different types of vacuum pump and systems, combining practical knowhow with problem solving capability. Experience in setting-up and operating complex lab equipment is highly desirable.You should be able to work independently in anticipating the needs of the hardware team and ensuring necessary resources are in place and equipment is functional. Technical problems will be overcome in a timely fashion with a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude. You will work within project and budget constraints, cultivate and maintain healthy professional relationships, and meet deadlines and goals as set out by the management team. You will also be able to communicate effectively and deliver updates on progress and plans to management and the wider Lace team.
You have a fundamental understanding that the technical infrastructure of Lace is critical to the company’s goals and that instrument downtime and delays in the installation and operation of equipment significantly impacts progress and the operations of the hardware team.
