About the Role:
Are you ready to take the next step in your psychology career? We have an exciting opportunity for a registered Clinical Psychologist to join our team on a fixed-term basis, covering maternity leave for up to 12 months. In this role, you’ll provide crucial assessment and diagnostic support to tamariki and their whānau as they navigate neurobehavioral challenges. Your work will directly contribute to the diagnosis and care of children affected by conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and Intellectual Disability (ID).
You’ll work independently and collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team, employing specialized assessment tools and your expertise in pediatric psychology. This position is ideal for a psychologist with a commitment to meaningful work, exceptional clinical skills, and a desire to positively impact the lives of tamariki in the Hawke’s Bay community.

About the Team/Service/Location:
Our Developmental Assessment Team is a highly skilled and supportive group of professionals dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based assessments for tamariki and whānau. The Child Development Service is nationally recognized for excellence in best practices and innovation, and this role offers a unique opportunity to work with one of New Zealand’s most respected child assessment teams. Based in beautiful Hawke’s Bay, our hospital serves a vibrant community with a rich cultural heritage, where you can enjoy a balanced lifestyle and a supportive work environment.
About You:
We’re looking for a Clinical Psychologist with a strong foundation in pediatric assessment, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for improving health outcomes for children. You will bring the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
- Competency with Te Ao Māori: Demonstrates respect and understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or shows a commitment to beginning this journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth (mandatory)
- Commitment to Te Tiriti Principles: Experience in initiatives that reflect the principles of Te Tiriti and that apply Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches within healthcare settings (mandatory)
- Diagnostic Expertise: Experience with administering and interpreting a range of diagnostic assessment tools.
- Knowledge of Neurodevelopmental Disorders: Prior experience with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, FASD, and childhood trauma

Communication and Organizational Skills: Exceptional report writing and verbal communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities to manage multiple cases effectively
