Health Care Assistant - Emergency Department

  • Salary band - $60,000 - $70,000 p.a pro-rata and Kiwisaver
  • Dunedin Hospital
  • 0.6 FTE (48 hours per fortnight) permanent
  • 0.8 FTE (64 hours per fortnight) fixed-term until 17/11/2025

About the role
Our Emergency Department is a very busy service. We have a triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles. Our department carries out all acute care, including full patient resuscitation facilities, management of trauma, fractures, injuries etc. It is expected that the successful candidates will participate in all aspects of the roster, including weekends and night shifts as we operate 24/7. It is therefore important you have the flexibility to commit to these rostered shifts.
As a Health Care Assistant you will be involved in the following:
  • Supporting our Nurses and other members of the health care team
  • Patient movement
  • Patient cares, as required
  • Stock reconciliation
  • Ward maintenance
  • Patient watch/supervision, with one-on-one care as required

About you:
  • Must already hold work rights as these roles do not qualify for visa sponsorship

  • Well organised and have excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with people in a caring capacity is also essential, whether than experience is gained from within a professional environment, or from caring for children or family members
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Salary range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired NZNO CEA and the salary will be in accordance with the HCA Pay Scale, between $60,100 and $70,358 p.a pro-rata dependant on relevant experience.
