Tenei turanga - About the Role:

Langa Le Va Pacific Policy team is a mixed policy and programmes team located within Te Waka Pῡtahitanga's Tautoru Economic Strategy Branch. The team is responsible for provision of strategic policy advice and delivery of key programme investments focused on improving economic wellbeing outcomes for Pacific Peoples in Aotearoa. One of the team's programmes is the Tupu Tai Pasifika Public Sector internship programme.


The Tupu Tai programme is a 14-week paid summer internship where Pacific interns are placed with agencies across government. MBIE leads the programme and organises recruitment and placements across the public sector. The 2024/25 summer internship has been paused reflecting the wider context of public sector organisational change processes that are currently underway across MBIE and within other public sector agencies.



The Advisor Tupu Tai plays a key role in contributing to the delivery and future design of the Tupu Tai Pasifika Public Sector internship programme. This is a highly collaborative role that will need to actively build and maintain a wide range of internal and external relationships to support the successful delivery of the Tupu Tai programme.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience working with Pacific young people in a mentoring/coaching or early in career advisory capacity preferably in the youth development or tertiary sector.
  • An understanding of policy and programme design principles.
  • Well-developed analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on collaboration.
  • Is comfortable quickly developing an understanding of context in relation to the insights required and provide strategic advice.
  • Pacific cultural capability skills and understanding of Pacific community contexts.
