He angitutanga | About the role
We are looking for a proactive, creative and organised Conservation Statutory Bodies Advisor to join DOC's Governance Team. This role will help service the New Zealand Conservation Authority (NZCA) in Wellington and assist the Statutory Bodies Manager with national oversight and advice relating to the appointment of members to boards across the conservation spectrum. The NZCA has a key role in providing strategic advice to the Minister and Director-General, and a regulatory function in approving key strategies and plans for managing the conservation estate.
You will also be involved in the board appointments process, so previous involvement in, and understanding of, appointing good board members will be useful. As part of the wider Governance Team, you will be assisting with the development of good governance and upskilling of entities that the Department is responsible for.
The position will be focused on:
  • providing support to the Manager
  • providing logistical support to the NZCA
  • inputs to the appointments process - which averages 130 people across 30 boards per annum.
There will be travel involved and likely twice a year.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role, be a flexible self-starter, and a skilled multi-tasker; you will be able to quickly grasp new issues, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work efficiently. The role requires strong writing skills, and strong computer skills. Great people skills and the ability to relate well to others will be essential.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
  • Experience in providing support to a Board, including minute-taking, preparation of agendas and meeting papers, and organising travel and other meeting essentials.
  • Experience in management of web pages and writing and editing e-newsletters.
  • Ability to manage a high workload of both pro-active and reactive communications.
  • Proven ability to deliver goals with a high attention to detail.
  • Experience in the full Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Are a highly motivated team player.
Desirable:
  • Strong writing, editing and oral communication skills, including experience in presenting concepts and frameworks to a range of audiences.
  • Knowledge of government processes.

Mo te tima | About the team
This is a small team of three highly motivated individuals, who work closely and collaboratively across the range of issues we are responsible for. There is an expectation that each member of the team will take the lead on items, as we look to share the load - with as many as 50 briefings to the Minister each year alone, as well as supporting the NZCA for their six meetings.

The salary range for this position is $79,656 - $100,639 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
