What will you be doing and who will you be working with?
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure that our internal systems and applications are secure, monitored, managed, protected, and compliant with ISO 27001, NIS2 and other relevant standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks, implementing and managing security tools, performing security assessments, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. The CISO will also be responsible for developing security policies and procedures, conducting security audits, and providing security training and awareness programs to employees. This role will report to Group function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise information security and IT risk management program.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security.
    • Maintain and deliver on the companys IT and Cyber Resilience roadmap
    • Identify and manage new and emerging threats to the organization.
  • Foster a culture of security awareness across the organisation and ensure that all team members understand their role in maintaining security.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate IT security risks.
    • Provide support to cybersecurity task force/sec ops on customer-facing engagements.
    • Understand and interact with related disciplines through committees to ensure the consistent application of policies and standards across all technology projects, systems, and services.
  • Report monthly on performance of cyber security KPIs to senior leadership and provide input to the board pack.
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures.
    • Updated/refreshed policy documents.
    • Unify group-level approach to cybersecurity accreditation.
    • Participate in ISO27001 audits to represent Viatel as the security lead
  • Conduct security audits and assessments to identify vulnerabilities. Act upon any vulnerability findings to reduce Viatels risk exposure.
    • Monthly report on most prevalent vulnerabilities.
    • Create action plan to address most prevalent or high-risk vulnerabilities
  • Identify security requirements for new and existing IT systems and applications.
    • Security appraisal of any new and existing systems.
  • Oversight and accountability of IT, network, cloud and application security tools and systems.
    • Monthly assessment of security tool coverage and compliance
    • Identify/assess potential new tools to improve security posture.
  • Provide third-level/advisory guidance on security events/incidents from the XDR portal.
    • T3 triage for unusual events/alerts in the XDR system.
  • Provide security training and awareness programs to employees.
    • Provide targeted training based on security training platform
    • Deliver phishing simulation programmes throughout the year and action any findings
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, NIS2 and other relevant standards and regulatory obligations.
    • Assist with ongoing ISMS Projects
    • Represent Viatel at the Digi-CORE initiative from the NCSC
  • Oversee incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches, and assist with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches as necessary.
    • Simulated incidents for the wider group.
    • Leads the response in any security incident
  • Provide a framework for analysing potential M&A targets and suppliers for cybersecurity compliance/posture.
    • Create analysis framework to analyse potential suppliers/M&A targets.
    • Perform the cyber posture element of due diligence activities on an acquisition target
  • Assist with the landing and onboarding of customers if there is a security element
    • Assist solution architects with the response of supplier questionnaires
    • Participate in customer meetings when Viatels approach to our own security posture is relevant to the meeting
    • Participate in customers security audits of Viatel
  • Ensure compliance with the changing laws and applicable regulations.
  • Develop and manage information security budgets, and monitor them for variances.

The ideal candidate will possess gravitas and experience, be of sound judgement, have relevant experience and appropriate qualifications, with a preference for business technology experience along with the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a CISO, security analyst or in a similar cyber security role within the communications or digital services industry.
  • Strong understanding of technology trends and their impact on the industry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in high-pressure situations
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Innovative and forward thinking
  • Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work with everyone in the business, from senior leadership to juniors.

Who are we looking for/What will you bring?
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven self-starter
  • Professional security management certification, such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH etc.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a combination of risk management, information security, and IT jobs.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 27001, NIS2 and other relevant standards.
  • Experience with security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, anti-virus software, and other security tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate security and risk-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Proven track record and experience in developing information security policies and procedures, as well as successfully executing programs that meet the objectives of excellence in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with business managers, IT engineering, and IT operations staff.
