Overview:
Pembina has an exciting new opportunity open with the Technical Services Unit (TSU), Specialist, Valves. This position reports to the Manager of Asset Lifecycle Management in the Technical Services Unit (TSU), part of Pembina’s Corporate Services division.
In addition to the Construction Services Office and Product Quality and Measurement, Technical Services Unit (TSU) manages on behalf of the Company’s Business Units (BU’s) a comprehensive Asset Integrity Program, which includes the pipeline integrity, integrity and risk assurance, integrity project management and construction, and facility integrity teams.


As a key contributor of the TSU team, the Specialist, Valves is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to valve design, material selection, vendor management, and operations support.


Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Leadership/Business Acumen/Strategy

  • Promote operating excellence and support delivery of initiatives that align with the strategic objectives of Pembina’s Operating Management System (OMS);
  • Drive and support operational excellence initiatives and projects in pursuit of establishing the “Pembina Way of operating”;
  • Be a true business and strategic contributor by developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with Operations and Engineering leadership across Pembina;
  • Achieve a high-quality working relationship with key stakeholders, particularly the various operating Business Units; and
  • Ensure that Pembina’s valve maintenance programs, and valve specifications are designed to meet or exceed all applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities


  • Provide guidance and support to Operations and maintenance practices in a collaborative way to ensure the longevity and reliability of valves;
  • Support projects to make critical decisions related to valve selection and design to ensure optimal functionality for the life of the asset and compliance with jurisdictional requirements. This would include selection of appropriate materials for valve construction, considering factors such as durability, cost, and application;
  • Develop and maintain valve specifications and standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and code requirements;
  • Provide comprehensive support to Operations and Integrity staff to improve current valve performance and integrity;
  • Assist supply chain to identify preferred vendors, manage relationships, and support the procurement process to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness;
  • Assist Operations to conduct thorough investigations into valve failures, identifying root causes and assisting with implementing corrective actions.
  • Stay current of advancements in valve technology, incorporating new techniques and technologies into our processes as appropriate; and
  • Collect incident data, run reports, categorize and rank incidents based on type, consequence, potential, regulatory implications, environmental impact, to help in identifying systemic patterns, predicting potential issues, and implementing preventive measures.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 15 years of related technical, operational and maintenance valve experience in the North American Petrochemical/Midstream Industry;
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech (APEGA) in a Mechanical or Materials discipline is preferred;
  • Possess a strong background in valve design, QA & QC, vendor management, preventative and predictive maintenance practices, root cause analysis and risk analysis. Demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement, be detail oriented and be able to demonstrate alignment with our core values. Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products;
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize a high-volume of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment while managing stakeholder and sponsor expectations;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and
  • A team player with ability to build collaborative working relationships with various stakeholders across organizational boundaries.


The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
