Payroll Coordinator

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Payroll and Benefits, the Payroll Coordinator administers one or more payrolls for the Division. This detail-oriented customer service professional must be able to handle large volumes of data from various sources, organize and maintain the confidentiality of the data according to Divisional policy and privacy legislation, and process it accurately while complying with strict and inflexible deadlines on an in-house payroll computer system (Navision/365). The Payroll Coordinator must be conversant with the Manitoba Department of Education’s “Financial Reporting and Accounting in Manitoba Education” (FRAME) as it pertains to the school division’s chart of accounts. As a member of the Payroll and Benefits team, the Payroll Coordinator will assist in the establishment of payroll processes and codes and contribute to a customer focused environment. They are required to assist with payroll year-end procedures including production of T-4's, and T-4 summaries and perform other related duties.
Qualifications (Education & Experience)
Education & Training:
- Completion of Grade 12 education.
- Completion of core level courses of the National Payroll Instititute’s Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation program required; completion of PCP designation would be an asset.
- Three (3) years current payroll and benefits experience in a similar role.
- Experience in a school division would be an asset.
- Experience with payroll administration in unionized and multi-union environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of current related legislation, statutes, and regulations.
- Ability to learn new software programs and to adapt to technology changes.
- Strong skills and experience in office 365 apps.
- Ability and experience to organize and prioritize tasks effectively to meet the multiple demands and deadlines within a busy office environment.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.
- Understanding of human resources related legislation including employment, labour relations, human rights, privacy, and of collective agreement language.
- Ability to work effectively in a confidential manner, and with diplomacy in accordance with divisional policies, procedures, collective agreement provisions and established practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skills in both official languages (English and French) preferred but not required.
- Experience with a payroll software implementation and/or software upgrade is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience using accounting systems; experience with Microsoft dynamics or 365 HRP systems would be an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Completion of Respect In School or equivalent training.
- Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
- Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
