ASM Global has an immediate opening at Canada Games Park and Walker Sports and Abilities Centre for an Operations Manager. Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, and in consultation with the ASM Global Operations team, the Operations Manager is responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the facilities and the events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overall supervision, direction, coordination, and evaluation of team members in the Operations department, including administrative staff.
  • Provide on-going training and detailed instructions to the Operations team members.
  • Ensure events, facility and ice rentals, business operations are run safely and efficiently.
  • Assist Director of Operations in directing, supervising, and scheduling all aspects of operations.
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules, emergency procedures and safety policies, and track them in ALTUM, ASM's proprietary maintenance program.
  • Responsible for assigning and completing work orders as directed.
  • Interview, hire, train and evaluate employees.
  • Plan, assign and direct work.
  • Assist Director of Operations with management of service contracts for preventative maintenance of all building assets.
  • Anticipate problems and present appropriate solutions. Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all equipment and supplies in all storage areas.
  • Maintain compliance with OH&S standards.
  • Manage all aspects of facility operations including event coordination, building and grounds maintenance, ice maintenance, event staffing, facility supply ordering and inventory as needed, room and event space setups, building security and fire safety.
  • Coordinate operations activities with building departments and contractors.
  • Ensure that the facility is fully operational with all utilities and functions of all building equipment.
  • Liaise and supervise between tenants, contractors, and facility users as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory, order all required supplies and materials.
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, damage or loss of property or any other safety concerns to Director of Operations.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years Facility and people management. Experience in an arena or recreational environment is considered and asset.
  • A valid Ontario “G Class” driver’s license.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid forklift certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building code, Electrical code and Fire Code.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems
  • Knowledge of CMMS Programs
  • Working at Heights training is an asset.
  • Valid forklift license is an Asset.
  • Experience using ice resurfacing machines and relevant ice maintenance experience is an asset.
  • TSSA Class B Refrigeration Operator Certificate is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with time-sensitive deadlines.
· An ability to take and follow direction from the General Manager and/or Director of Operations.
  • An ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • An ability to supervise a team and delegate in a professional, respectful, and safe manner.
  • A strong attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop good rapport with management, tenants, fellow employees, and the general public.
· Computer skills, including an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • The ability to operate equipment such as lawn maintenance equipment, floor burnishers, floor scrubbers, etc.
  • The ability to work at heights, such as ladders and walkways. Working From Heights training is an asset.

  • Work flexible and extended hours, including evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
  • This position requires the employee to work inside and outside the building in all types of climate and weather.
  • There is not a set schedule for this department. Hours will total 40.00 hours per week.
  • The employee may be required to walk for long periods of time.
  • The employee is required to stand, lift, kneel, and bend for periods of time.
  • The employee may be required to climb, work at heights, walk along high walkways.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • This work requires utilizing tools and equipment that could cause physical injury if not handled and operated following safety practices and procedures.
  • This work requires the use of chemicals that could cause physical injury if not handled and operated following safety practices and procedures.
