Environmental Field Technician

The position of Environmental Field Technician will provide a mix of responsibilities predominantly focused on field work and may require working varied hours and travel to accommodate project deadlines. This position is a good fit for someone who is detail oriented, likes working outside, is a good problem-solver, and can work independently.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the completion field and reporting work for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Environmental Remediations, Risk Assessments, and Records of Site Condition.
- Complete environmental fieldwork for a wide variety of project tasks including supervision of drilling boreholes, installing monitoring wells, collection of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and air samples, and onsite testing using UVF or XRF.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures and/or industry standard sampling procedures to ensure data is usable and accurate.
- Collecting site information including photography, soil lithography data for borehole logs, borehole and site feature locations, sample tracking data and pertinent site data.
- Preparation for fieldwork including utility locates, laboratory orders, equipment rentals and other logistical requirements. Collection of field data, including borehole logs, photographs and other field forms.
- Data interpretation and analysis, specifically with on-site testing technology (XRF, UVF, PID) and laboratory test results.
- Analyzing laboratory data including comparisons to applicable guidelines (CSA, CCME and O.Reg. 153/04).
- Assist in the preparation of draft technical reports, including Phase 1 ESA, for review by senior staff.
- Either completion of or enrolment in a bachelor’s degree or diploma program in: Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Geological, or Civil), Environmental Science, Geoscience, or related field(s).
- Willingness to travel to local and/or remote sites within Canada. Field work forms a vital component of the position responsibilities, hence the ability to demonstrate experience in completing fieldwork independently is required.
- Competency in compilation, summary, analysis, and evaluation of data including application of engineering principles and problem-solving skills under supervision of project manager.
- Ability to multi-task, follow specific procedures and work well with others to meet a common goal.
- Expertise in using standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) for office work including writing technical reports.
- Class G License and ownership or access to a reliable vehicle.
- Previous field experience (sampling, drilling, overseeing contractors) or with site assessment (Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, risk assessment) is an asset.
- Familiarity with governing regulations for provincial and federal environmental reporting (CSA, CCME and O.Reg. 153/04).
- Interest in the outdoors and experience with backcountry hiking and camping.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.35-$27.64 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
