How will I help?
Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) manages the financial needs of corporate, institutional and government clients that are based, or have interests in, Australia and New Zealand.
The purpose of the WIB COO is to support the execution of WIB's business strategy and the development of common capabilities and best practises across WIB focused on governance, reporting, risk management and controls, customer outcomes, transformation (including program execution, digitalisation and data management) to enable the Lines of Businesses to focus on performance and disciplined management of their businesses. The WIB COO also plays a central role to connect and represent the Division to the Group to ensure alignment on strategy, performance, investment, execution and risk oversight.
The Senior Manager, Data Risk and Controls will report to the Executive Manager - WIB CDAO and will support execution of various data initiatives in the line of business. You will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a data management capability in the Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) business and improve the data risk environment. You will Manage Critical Data Elements (CDEs) onboarding processes including identification, mapping business data flows, assessing data controls, defining data quality rules, and monitoring data quality within WIB. In addition to this you will:
- Support divisional and group data initiatives.
- Manage the data incident and problem management process for WIB business including remedial action planning and management.
- Support data quality issue management for the WIB business by coordinating with Business SMEs, Technology SMEs and Group platforms for remediation.
- Embed data issues management process in WIB business.
- Support building strong data governance for WIB business.
- Help create a "data first" culture within the business.

What do I need?
To be successful in this role you will have experience working on large scale data quality & data risk initiatives, and be familiar with data management, data analytics, and data lineage tools. You will have experience working in financial markets, global transaction services or corporate/institutional banking, with 10+ years' experience in the financial services industry. You will have experience working in a large and complex organisation and be confident working with senior stakeholders and understanding their viewpoints.
Additionally, you will have:
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, cross functional teams.
- Good communication and influencing skills required to manage significant relationships with stakeholders
- Experience applying a risk mindset and commercial acumen
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- A software development background
- Experience of Westpac Critical Data Element onboarding processes
